Faith Link
The Faith Link program may be one of Henderson County’s best-kept secrets. However, Faith Link—a collaborative program between local government (Department of Social Services), Interfaith Assistance Ministry and the local faith community—has been making a difference in the lives of low-income families for over 10 years.
Faith Link was formed in response to changes in the welfare reform laws of 1996. The program matches families participating in the Work First (welfare reform) program with teams of volunteers from faith congregations to offer those families encouragement and emotional and logistical support. Faith Link is also charged with increasing community awareness of issues regarding poverty and the working poor. It’s Learning Enrichment and Enhancement Program (LEEP), a tutoring and parents’ support group effort, is held Wednesday nights in Trinity Presbyterian Church.
